Rare Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Cancer

For nearly eight years, Mrs. Wini’s Rare Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma cancer continued to grow despite multiple treatments. Her first diagnosed with cancer was in the jaw and oral cavity, she underwent four surgeries followed by radiation therapy. Yet, the mass continued to return and grow. By 2024, the tumour had become increasingly difficult to manage, affecting her ability to chew and making it progressively harder to open her mouth and eye.

Her pathology report identified the cancer as adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), a rare cancer that commonly arises in the salivary glands. ACC is known for its slow but persistent growth, its tendency to invade surrounding nerves, and its potential to recur even years after treatment. It can also spread to other parts of the body, particularly the lungs and bones.

The growing mass had a significant impact on Mrs. Wini's daily life. Part of her right upper jaw had been removed during surgery, while the recurrent mass placed increasing pressure on the surrounding tissues. Chewing became difficult, and as the tumour continued to grow, opening her mouth and eye became increasingly challenging.

Till 2024, the cancer continued to progress. The mass grew to approximately three times its original volume, while the difficulty opening her mouth and eye became increasingly pronounced. Eventually, she found ECCT and decided it was time to try something different.

Following the start of ECCT, her condition was monitored through follow-up assessments and CT scans. After approximately one year of ECCT use, a CT scan showed that the mass had decreased by more than 90%. What remained was described as only a thin layer of tissue around the right cheekbone area. For Mrs. Wini, this represented a very different picture from the years before, when the mass had continued to grow despite four surgeries and radiation therapy.

After two years of using ECCT alone, or approximately 10 years after her original cancer diagnosis, Mrs. Wini's condition had become relatively stable. She was able to carry out her normal daily activities. Her sleep was normal, her pain almost gone, and her overall routine had returned to a more ordinary level compared with the difficulties she had experienced as the mass continued to grow.

Her journey had been a long one: years of repeated treatment, recurrence and progressive growth, followed by a difficult decision to try another option beyond conventional treatment. Mrs. Wini's experience represents a significant change from where her journey of recovery finally began.
